Suzie's whispers are running through my head
Sweet adrenaline is running through my veins
90 miles per hour, out across the land
Chasing dusk's shadows like I could hold them in my hand
I heard "I love you" in the echo of a kiss
Months before it ever came down to this
Now my time is leaving, and my spirit's breathing
For the chance of one last impossible purpose
Chorus:
What I need to do
Is to get one last vision of you
Suzie, destiny
Is doing it's best to catch up with me
They were on me before I knew what happened
I'm still not sure about all that went down
I started running, and I kept running
When I finally stopped there was no one left around
(Chorus)
All the choices and the old voices
Whisper your name, and lead me on to you
What I did I can't leave behind me
But if they find me, they'll find me there with you
When this is through, only one thing left to do
I got to get back to you...
But I can hear them in the corners of the distance
With their hellhounds tracked on me and moving in
I can feel the heat of something sacred burning
Is it love or my soul on the coals of some ancient sin?
(Chorus)

Baby, write me story
One about two hopeless kids
Wandering around on a lovesick cloud
Much the way we did
Make it a happy ending
Or better yet, leave off the end
Let go on and on forever
It's always good to pretend
Maybe I'm wrong to ask you to write it down
You could say it out loud, you know I'd love just to hear the sound
Pretend that we are like you know we could be
Baby Write me a love story, make it about you and me
Now you've got the beginning
The rest it don't have to be true
You can leave out all of the doubt
And the bad things I've said to you
There's nothing wrong with some fiction
It might help me to realize
I could look everywhere, and never find
What's right there in your eyes
Be sure that you get all the details right
Like your arms around me as we stare off into the night
We can look at the stars and be whatever we want to be
Write me a love story make it about you and me
Baby, write me a story
One where I'm always with you
One about all of the wonders of love
Then make it come true

Lo-fi Night
Static surrounds glaring neon lights
Step inside
And tune in to the others who decide
To be denied
These are the reasons why
I don't try to cry
'Cause I didn't know that
Some light burns straight through the day
But in the glare somewhere there are things
Things that still can hide away
And never meet the heat it brings
I didn't know that
Lonely cup
Three fingers of whiskey fill it up
Pour it down
To grease up all the rust around your frown
It surrounds
All that you used to find fine
Back in your time
And you think you don't know that
(Chorus)
I didn't know that
And you didn't know that
Last few days
June's been July, with August haze
But the way the days rip away
Hasn't really changed, it's still the same
Helpless, what's this?
Another night down at the bar
Watching the local movie stars
In this bizarre play of where we are
Same lines at the same times
Do you need to know that?
(Chorus)
I need to know that
I need to know that

I think I've sat with everyone I've ever cared about
At one time or another in this place
Every booth has a different memory
Every scratch in the table brings back another face
On the wall, cheap, mounted posters of Elvis
Still look out on the crowd
It's 2 am; the jukebox is blaring the same old songs
The bar drunks are singing out loud
The high school-ers sip their coffee
Tenth cup for the night
And I see little reflections of me
In every face under the pink neon light
(Chorus)
I'm too tired to sleep
Wired and week
There's no other place in this town...
It isn't clear
Why I'm still here
But there's no other place in this town
That's open all night
There's this blonde
She's sitting at a corner table
She looks a lot like a girl I used to know
She's got smile that's full of childish innocence
The kind we all lost so many years ago
The waitress lays the check down
The blonde lights a cigarette
She's writing down napkin poems
About a future that's not ruined yet
(Chorus)
Another ash tray
Another story
Another fifty cent tip
Another sick joke
Another quick smoke
It's all starting to slip...
Every night ends the same way...
I lean back into the red metallic vinyl
That covers all these worn out seats
The windows act like two-way mirrors at this time of night
Somehow that just makes it all complete
The regulars have different faces
But their roles are all the same
Mainlining caffeine and nicotine
Pretending their future won't ever change
(Chorus)
5. Mirror Calm Water
© Copyright 2004 Ryan Fitzsimmons
If we don't ask the questions, then we won't get the answers
But even when we do, we don't
And what you want to know, you won't
Want to know when you know what it is you want
And the answers to the questions will be the only thing that haunts you
I've been trying to find a river
With a current so slow it barely moves
Where the only break in its pure reflection
Is the oar I row on the course I cruise
Sail around some little island
From the moonlight through to the break of day
Let the mirror calm water wash my blues away
This town's got a way about its walk
Sultry sliding sidestep and smoky barroom talk
Sounds so sexy when it whispers words to you
Sounds so damn good, you might believe that what it says is true
Looking at the cool horizon
The darkness' edge at that time of day
Where the light has run to hide
When the pale cloud red fades to darker grays
Make reflections of almost nothing
From the sky above to the shoreline below
And that mirror calm water can cool this troubled soul
If listen to myself someday I might believe
That what I'm saying serves some other purpose beside to deceive
My brain from thinking that I'm thinking myself down
To the water where the answers always drown
I keep trying to find that river
Or a wide-open ocean that's deathly still
Where the only break in its pure reflection
Are the stones I throw with my own will
Set a course out into nothing
From the moonlight through to the break of day
Let the mirror calm water wash my blues away

Vegas Jim and Cross-eyed Sue
On a Saturday night with nothing better to do
Jim picked her up about 11:04
You could feel trouble when they slammed the door
Jim grew up in a house of lies
You could see the bruises in his eyes
Cross-eyed Sue had a cracked glass mind
Her and Jim were a pair of a kind
Chorus -
Every night in this town burns you
Takes a while to understand
One more night with nothing to do
Boredom makes for dangerous plans
Devil love’s those Idle Hands
In the hammer lane doing 95
Dotted white line keeping them alive
'Round exit 9 they veered off slow
Down to the quick fill down the road
Chorus
Jim bust in with a loaded gun
Looked at the clerk said, "Let's have some fun,
This Barretta's cocked and ready to roll,
So open the drawer man, nice and slow."
Chorus
Sue came in with an old suitcase
The loaded up the dough and then they split the place
They walked out in to the hick-town night
Just in time for the flashing lights
There were 7 cops to 2 of them
But Vegas Jim is a gambling man
He just smiled as he tripped the line
Behind the door, just enough C4, to make sure everybody has a good time
Chorus
Now the gas station's a pile of bricks and smoke
Jim and Sue are laughing at their joke
Back on the highway, quarter to 2
On a Saturday night with nothing better to do
On a Saturday night with nothing better to do...
7. Empty Glass
© Copyright 2004 Ryan Fitzsimmons
We sat and we drank until three
In your apartment on Seneca Ave
You stumbled over to me
And said you'd give all of the love that you have
I could still smell the rum on your breath
As you softly kissed my cheek
Then you hit the floor and passed out into sleep
I wish I was your bottle
I wish I was your wine
I keep telling myself that you love me
And you're bound to run dry sometime
You must like to drink 'cause when I'm around
You always buy me a few
And throw them down so I can pass out beside you
The "I love you"'s that come in the dark
In drunken slurred whispers into my ear
Fill up my empty glass heart
And I guess that the reason that I'm still here
Your warm body lying beside me
Is a nice dream to think of
But you don't even know who your with, let alone what to love
I wish I was your bottle
I wish I was your wine
I keep telling myself that you love me
And you're bound to run dry sometime
You must like to drink 'cause when I'm around
You always buy me a few
And throw them down so I can pass out beside you
Last night we hit all the bars
And I led you around as you clung to my hand
Through the neon I could see the stars
And in that great distance I began to understand
Ten million light years away from where that light made it's start
And I'm closer to it than I'll ever be to your heart
I wish I was your bottle
I wish I was your wine
I keep telling myself that you love me
And you're bound to run dry sometime
You must like to drink 'cause when I'm around
It's all we ever do
And I only drink so I can pass out beside you
8. Tell
© Copyright 2004 Ryan Fitzsimmons
Hey man, can I bum a cigarette?
For a could dollars maybe I'll tell you some secrets
Who am I you ask? Well, what's it worth to you?
'Sides if I told you'd never believe it was true.
Sit down man c'mon, I know your type
You hide in the shadows 'cause your afraid of the light
Am I wrong? Well, prove it then
I tell you I've told the fortunes of greater men
(Chorus)
And it all goes down
To the bottom of the wishing well
And it all goes down
Only time will, only time will tell
Now, I can explain it but you gotta listen to me
I tell ya the good life can't be measured by degrees
Or minutes, or hours, or dollars and cents
Or on the value of other fool's comments
I know, I know, I talk too much
But safety in words has always been your crutch
But your words are meaningless. Don't you understand?
Sometimes the actions make the man.
(Chorus)
All right, go on. Just walk away
I guarantee you we will meet again someday
I'll be around your corner, I'll be at the end of your street
And I'll be in the eyes of every single stranger that you meet
Don't look so frightened, what are you, scared?
I'm just as old as these clothes that I wear
Who am I, well to be true,
I'm just a much older version of you
(Chorus)
And it all goes down
Like a sinner going straight to hell
And it all goes down
Only time will, only time will tell
9. Rain Words
© Copyright 2004 Ryan Fitzsimmons
The rain falls
Wipers try to clear the glass
It rolls off
In tiny streams into the past
The green lights
Tint the water with their spark
The colors
Stand alone against the dark
My car shakes
Every time I hit the gas
My soul aches
With every mile marker I pass
The headlights
Reach their way into the black
Alone now
I've driven too far to turn back
My words lay
With the mist upon the road
I drive on
And watch the spray behind explode
I forget
Every word I ever knew
You said
Words meant nothing to you
10. Not Just Another
© Copyright 2004 Ryan Fitzsimmons
I lay there breathless in your arms in the dark light of your room
Amazed at the angel lying next to me in a moment that would end too soon
And I whispered "I love you" as you lay asleep, the only words I could say
But there are so many more words trying to make their way out of my soul
I try to fight them back, I'm afraid that if I say them I will loose control
And if I speak will it scare you away? What am I so scared to say?
(Chorus)
So I write another love song, another sad refrain
Just another feeling I hope will never change
Just another word for me to write upon the page
But this is not just another love; no this is not just another love
So what is it about you that's keeping me awake tonight?
No matter how I write this down it never seems to come out right
You're love will surround me while you are away, I don't know what else I can say.
So go ahead baby take that road downtown
My heart will be in your footsteps; my love will follow you around
Go and see how beautiful your dreams can be, you've been such a dream to me
(Chorus)
And your eyes covered everything that was real
Now I'm giving in to everything I feel
Go and see how beautiful your dreams can be, you've been such a dream to me
(Chorus)
11. Sad, Sad, Sad, Sad (And Faraway from Home) (Peter Mulvey)
12. Streetlights (Beggining to Understand)
© Copyright 2004 Ryan Fitzsimmons
Street Light reflecting down on the salt white avenue
14 degrees and the cold is cutting the night right through
Must have frozen all the cars, and shut the winds right down
2 O clock in the morning and there isn't a single sound
Except for the breath escaping out of my chest
It rises like smoke in the air and floats slowly west
Beautiful and wasted, a ghost from the soul
Leaving this concrete gravity, beyond control
It's about all that's moving in this cold and broke-down land
But I'm beginning to understand (beginning to understand)
I'm beginning to understand.
Street Light so white making all the trees look dead
All pale and brittle hanging over my head
Seems like the wind could ground them with one stiff blow
To crash down in pieces on the ground below
The light of springtime is so far from my command
But I'm beginning to understand
I'm beginning to understand
Street Light tonight honey it's all I got
Making my shadow reach across this empty parking lot
Oh, if I could only throw this shadow down on you
Sometimes the light's no match for what a little darkness will do
It's never been good enough for me just to hold your hand
But I'm beginning to understand
I'm beginning to understand
This weather may never let this work out like we planned
But I'm beginning to understand
I'm beginning to understand
